TOPIC: Physical Change
TYPE OF LESSON PLAN: Simulation Lesson Plan
BRIEF OVERVIEW:
In this chapter we will study about the changes that are
happening around us and their various effects and types. This will immensely
help in learning the changes that are based on these similarities. This chapter
also explains about the different activities that can help us to classify the
changes that are irreversible or reversible in nature. We can clearly
understand about two different types of changes i.e. Physical and chemical
change, Crystallisation, Rusting of Iron.
Content to be taught:
a. Physical change
b. Characterstics of Physical Change.

In order to link with previous knowledge and to
further motivate the students the pupil teacher will show one video where
several day to day life changes will take place:
Day to Night
Sunrise and Sunset
Then PT
will show one gif where someone is making a paper boat and then pupil teacher will ask students that
what they have noticed.
“The student will say that the shape of the
paper has changed.”(Expected)
Now, pupil teacher will ask what type of change
is this? (Problematic)
The pupil teacher and students will discuss the
answer.
Announcement
of the Topic:
Finding the students unable to give proper
answer the Pt will say
“Well Students, in today’s class we will learn
about the types of changes.”
The Pupil teacher write down the name of the
topic on the blackboard.
TEACHING
LEARNING PROCESS
Teaching Learning Point: Define term changes
Learning Process : Inquiry Approach
Teaching Learning Process : PT will first show one video and ask students to observe carefully and infer what you understand. Then PT will ask students to share their observation. After getting responses PT will explain in this video we saw changes that takes place in our day to day life.
PT will explain Changes is a universal phenomenon and it occurs continuously.
Skill Develop: Inquiry skill
Multimedia used:
Teaching Learning Point: Explain physical change
Learning Process : Inquiry Approach
Teaching Learning Process: PT will show one image of paper then show one video where paper folding takes place to convert it into boat.
Ask students to infer the result. After getting
several responses.
PT will play one song and ask students to listen it carefully and note down the important points. PT will ask students, try to frame define of physical change. After getting responses PT will conclude the define of Physical Change on the board.
“The change in which only physical properties of a substance get changed and no new substance is formed.”
Skill Develop: Auditory skills
Multimedia used:
Teaching Learning Point: Illustrate characterstics of physical change
Learning Process: Lecture cum Demonstration method
Teaching Learning Process: To further motivate the students PT will show
gif of stretching rubber band and tearing of paper and ask to student to frame hypothesis
what you observe.
Then PT will explain When we stretch a rubber
band only its shape and size will change this shows change takes place only in
their physical aspect.
This is our first characterstics 1:
“in Physical change only some of the physical
properties like shape , size, colour and no new substance is formed.
PT will show one more video of wrapping the aluminium foil and ask students what do you observe here. Some will say crushing of foil whereas some will say change in the shape of foil. After appreciating the responses of students.
PT will start explaining and write the same on
the blackboard.
Characterstics 2:
In
physical change, Chemical composition of a substance remains same during a
physical change.
We
can say No change in chemical composition will takes place.
Characterstics:
To make class more interesting and to explain next property PT will show 2 images where one is of boiling water and 2nd is of melting of icecream.
PT will ask students to keenly observe and tell
what do you infer from this?
After getting responses PT will further explain:
Characterstics
3:
Expansion
and contraction of substances on heating and cooling.
Energy is used to change the state of substance only.
Characterstics 4:
By giving several examples like stretching of rubber.
Evaporation of water etc.
PT will explain 4th characterstics:
Physical changes are reversible in nature.
Recapitulation:
PT will show a digital flip
book to the students. She will provide some images to the students and ask them
one by one to find out which characterstics of physical change suits this
situation.
1. 1. Melting
of ice
2. Hammering
of Gold
3. Crumbling
cookie
4. Breaking
of Pencil
5. Carving
wood
Closure of the topic
taught:
Pt
will summarise the topic by with the help of flip book used for recap.
Extension of Learning;
Identify whether you observe Physical change here or
not:
a.
Cutting
of Paper
b.
Griding
of a substance
c.
Stretching
of Rubber Band
d.
Freezing
of Water.
If yes then explain by demonstration?

Exploring (identifying) |
First
of all PT will show some cuboidal objects like room, gift box, match box and
ask students to observe carefully. Is
there any shape from which all these cuboids are made from? |
2min
|
|
|
Explaining |
Now PT will explain that 6 rectangle
combine to form cuboid. That 6 rectangle represents the face of cuboid. PT will define Total Surface Area of Cuboid
is equal to the sum of the areas of it’s 6 rectangular faces.

Taking Action (Predicting / Formulating /
Constructing) |
P.T. will say, Let’s
calculate the total surface area of this cuboidal room having length (l) ,
breadth (b) and height(h).
To calculate
total surface area PT will calculate area of all 6 faces and add them to get
formula of total surface area of cuboid.
After this PT
will explain one special case i.e. if l=b=h. then again calculate total
surface area. |
6min |
|
POST TEACHING STAGE (EVALUATION STAGE):
Q1. A notepad cube measures 22 inches on each side. Find its Total surface area?
Solution: l=22inches
Total surface area of notepad= 6 side ×side
Total Surface area of notepad = 6 ×484
Total surface area of notepad = 2,904sq
inches.
Q.
Find the total surface area of a cuboid having length 4 inches, breadth 6 inches,
and height 3 inches?
Solution: l= 4inches
b = 6inches
h = 3inches
Total Surface area of cuboid= 2 ( l b +b h +hl)
Total Surface area of cuboid = 2 ( 4×6+6×3+3×4)
Total Surface area of cuboid = 2 × 54
Total Surface
area of cuboid = 108sqinches.
