SUB TOPIC SUMMARY: 

Cuboid is a 3dimension figure (l, b and h) having 6 faces, 8 vertex and 12 edges. All surfaces of cuboid are rectangular in shape. Total surface area of cuboid is sum of area of all six rectangular faces.

A.  PRE TEACHING STAGE (PLANNING STAGE):

OBJECTIVES: After completion of this lesson student will be able to:

Knowledge: recognize the shape and dimension of various objects.

Understanding: Identify face, vertex and edges of an object.

Application: formulate total surface area of cuboid and also its special case.

Analysing: differentiate between the shapes of surfaces of cube and cuboid.

Evaluating: appreciate the importance of cuboid in real life.

Creating: calculate questions based on total surface area of cube and cuboid.

First of all PT will show some cuboidal objects like room, gift box, match box and ask students to observe carefully.

Explaining

 

Now PT will explain that 6 rectangle combine to form cuboid. That 6 rectangle represents the face of cuboid.

PT will define Total Surface Area of Cuboid is equal to the sum of the areas of it’s 6 rectangular faces.

Taking Action (Predicting / Formulating / Constructing)


 

 

P.T. will say, Let’s calculate the total surface area of this cuboidal room having length (l) , breadth (b) and height(h).

 

To calculate total surface area PT will calculate area of all 6 faces and add them to get formula of total surface area of cuboid.

 

After this PT will explain one special case i.e. if l=b=h. then again calculate total surface area.

POST TEACHING STAGE (EVALUATION STAGE):

Q1.   A notepad cube measures 22 inches on each side. Find its Total surface     area? 

   Solution: l=22inches

  Total surface area of notepad= 6 side ×side 

 Total Surface area of notepad = 6 ×484

  Total surface area of notepad = 2,904sq inches.


Q. Find the total surface area of a cuboid having length 4 inches, breadth 6 inches, and height 3 inches?

Solution: l= 4inches

                b = 6inches

                h = 3inches

Total Surface area of cuboid= 2 ( l b +b h +hl)

Total Surface area of cuboid = 2 ( 4×6+6×3+3×4)

Total Surface area of cuboid = 2 × 54

 Total Surface area of cuboid = 108sqinches.
